Windows 10 v1709 introduces a new energy saving technology called Power Throttling. If you do not find it useful, you can disable it.

Performance reduction under Windows 10

A Windows integrated recognition system identifies and keeps active user tasks or tasks that are important to the user during execution. Other processes are automatically strangled. The task manager can be used to find such applications.

To check which applications and processes are limited, you must open the Task Manager, select the Details tab, right-click and click Select Columns. Select Power Throttling to display the column where you can see the details.

To disable power throttling in Windows 10, you must change the active power plan from Balanced to High Performance. You can do this via the battery indicator visible in the taskbar.

Click the icon to display a cursor with the selected power mode. It has four positions, as shown in the image below, as you move from left to right:

  • Battery saver
  • Best battery (recommended)
  • Best performance

To disable the power throttle, simply move the slider to the right to activate the Power Plan Best performance. This disables power reduction, but significantly increases power consumption, as the power saving functions are also disabled in this mode.
