Create A Windows Vista Folder Icon in GIMP

In this guide, you’ll learn how to create a Windows Vista-style icon using Gimp. This is my initial experience with GIMP, so please excuse any incorrect tool names. For this tutorial, I used GIMP 2.2 on a Mac OS X.

Step 1
Navigate to File > New to start a new 250 x 250px image.

Step 2
Add a new Layer and use the Path Tool to create a shape similar to this:

Step 3
Use the “Create selection from path” option in the path tool’s settings.
Step 4
The design you created with the path tool should now be outlined and dotted.
