In this post, we see two very simple ways to open a command prompt window in any folder or on the desktop without having to navigate in the menu. The first is the context menu.
Press the Shift key and use the context menu.
To open a command prompt window in any folder, simply hold down the shift key and right-click the desktop. In the context menu, you see option Open command window . A click on this button opens a CMD window.
You can also do the same thing in any folder. The command prompt takes the path to the folder from which it is opened.
Windows 10 v1709 replaced Open control window here with Open PowerShell window here. But with a registry setting, you can restore the Open Window command here in the Windows 10 folder context menu.
Type CMD in the address bar
There is another trick to do the same. Navigate to the folder, then simply type CMD in the address bar and press Enter to open the input window.
The CMD takes the path to this folder.
