Before performing the following procedure, check the services to ensure that no old deleted services are active. Many utility software programs do a very poor job of uninstalling.

To display hidden devices:

  • Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
  • Click on the Advanced tab.
  • Click on Environment Variables
  • Click New under the lower Environment Variables (System Variables) pane.
  • Under Variable name, type devmgr_show_nopresent_devices.
  • For the variable value, enter 1.
  • Click on OK. OK to close the computer
  • Open the Device Manager, click Show, select Show Hidden Devices from the menu. Most orphans will be in non-plug and play drivers and the icons will be greyed out. You can right-click on the greyed-out driver and click Uninstall.

Some drivers that are NOT greyed out are also not required, such as AVG, Symantec and others. These must be uninstalled.

Delete the EppOobe.etl file

EppOobe.etl is the file currently running that is automatically created if Window Security Essentials is installed. For many users, deleting this file can resolve the error 0xC000000D.

Then delete the EppOove.etl file and restart your computer to check if the problem is solved.

End the Microsoft Security Client process (msseces.exe) in the Task Manager

One of the reasons why the Microsoft Security Client program suddenly stops working is that the process can be corrupted. Restart the system and see if it helps you. If it does not complete the Microsoft Security Client process in the Task Manager.

1] Press CTRL+ALT+ENTF and select Task Manager from the options.

2] In the list of processes, search for the process msseces.exe. Right-click and select Finish Process.
