Several Windows users reported finding one or more devices (PCI, USB, audio, etc.) in the Device Manager survey that have an event log indicating that they need an “additional installation”. Although the users concerned report that this scenario does not seem to limit the functionality of the device, they still want to know what to do to correct the error message. In most cases, it is reported that the problem occurs under Windows 10.

If you look at the list, you will notice that even if the entry in the event list could be the highest, the time stamp is older than the following entries. This means that this message is normal and has no significant meaning, although it can be confusing and previous versions of Windows have not shown anything similar. If an entry called Device is installed somewhere below in the list, you can assume that the driver for your device is correctly installed. Only if this is missing and you have problems installing the driver, please follow the driver installation instructions for your ESI product as they appear in the knowledge base and/or in your product’s printed manual.

Using SFC /SCANNOW on Windows 10

■When, the desktop screen appears, right-click on the Start button.
■Click Admin command prompt in the context menu.
■On, the User Account Control confirmation box, click Yes to confirm your action.
■Wait to the administrator: The command prompt opens.
Note: This is the high command prompt, where you can execute all commands without restriction.

■Start with your Windows 10 computer.

Don’t forget to look at the last time stamp of the event.

Although this problem can certainly be caused by other factors, in most cases, there is no real problem except an error in the way the user concerned reads event timestamps. By default, the last event (and the only one that should be taken into account) is at the bottom of the event list.

Some affected users accidentally saw the first event and not the last. In this case, there is a high probability of detecting the message “Device needs further installation” because the device driver is still being installed.

Update or reinstall the affected driver

If you have confirmed with method 1 that the last event entered indicates “Device must be installed again”, the driver installation can be interrupted. Note that such situations may also mean that the device concerned is operating with limited functionality.

If this scenario applies, you should be able to solve the problem by forcing Windows to reinstall the driver – either by updating or uninstalling it. Several users concerned have reported that the problem has been solved and that the Event tab no longer displays the message “Device needs further installation” after performing the operation.
