Microsoft tries to fix bugs with each update, but right-clicking on the Start menu does not work, and taskbar elements have survived various updates and annoy many Windows 10 users. Also worrying, nothing to worry about, because here is a working solution to this problem.
If you are currently struggling with the same type of problem, the following methods can help you. We have managed to identify some potential solutions that have been confirmed by several users who are struggling with the same type of problem.
Use Shift + right click.
Some users reported that they held down the Shift key when right-clicking the icon in the taskbar. Note, however, that while this method works, it should be considered a workaround rather than a fix.
If you are looking for a more reliable solution, continue using the methods below.
Reboot Windows Explorer
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Right-click Explorer.exe in the list on the Processes tab.
- In the context menu, select the Finish task option.
- Then click the “File” tab at the top and select “Start a new task”.
- Now enter explorer.exe and check the box “Create this task with administrator rights”.
- Check if you still have problems.
PowerShell command
- Press Windows Key + X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Copy and paste this command and press Enter: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml”}.

Run the DISM commands
DISM (Maintenance and Management of Deployment Images) is a new command-line tool that can be used to maintain a Windows image or to prepare a Windows PE image. DISM replaces Package Manager (pkgmgr.exe), PEimg, and Intlcfg. DISM brings together the capabilities of these three tools and introduces new features to improve offline operation.
Perform the following steps to run DISM commands:
1) Press Windows + x on your keyboard.
2) Select Command Line (Administrator) to open the Administrator command line.
3) In the “Administrator: Command Prompt” window, enter the following commands. Press Enter after each command:
DISM.exe / online / image cleaning / scanhealth
DISM.exe / online / image cleaning / Restorehealth
Use a system restore point
Some users reported that they successfully solved the problem after returning to the previous system restore point, when the right click function in the taskbar worked fine.
The System Restore Point is a Windows feature that allows users to fully restore their computer to an earlier point in time. If you have the correct System Restore Point, you can use this feature to restore your computer to a state where a right-click function worked properly.
