Installing Teams on Linux via Snap

The Ubuntu variant of Linux allows easy installation of the Teams Desktop application. To start, you need to install it using Snap. If you’re not familiar, Snaps are the applications that are packaged under Linux, very similar to the .exe packages you get under Windows 10.

We’ll talk specifically about Ubuntu, for more information on installing on other variants of Linux, click here. First open a terminal and execute the following commands, one by one and in the exact order.

  • sudo apt update
  • sudo apt install snapd
  • sudo snap install teams-for-linux

You need to enter your system password and then press Enter, but the terminal will do all the work for you. You will see a progress bar, and once the installer is ready, you can go to your application list and search for teams in the list or start them.

It is important to note, however, that for security reasons, you will have to manually enable camera support before you can take full advantage of the teams under Linux. You can do this by visiting the Ubuntu Software Store. Click Installed, and then scroll down to Teams for Linux. Make sure you click Teams for Linux, and then click Permissions in the top bar. Set the switch for using the camera to ON.
