The Task Scheduler is an important Windows feature that can automatically perform certain tasks at a given time. The user must first add a task to be performed and then select the time at which it should be performed. When the time comes, the task scheduler automatically executes this task. Recently, however, many reports have been received regarding a “Error 0x80070057” and the task scheduler could not be started.
Error message:
0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.
An error occurred attempting to retrieve task account information. You may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change
task account information.
To resolve this error, follow these steps:
- Open the Task Scheduler.
- Right-click on the task.
- Select Properties.
- Look for “If the task is already running, the following rule applies”.
- Select “Stop existing instance” from the drop-down list.
- Click on Save and exit.

Run with an administrator account
If the task scheduler is not running and you are on a default account, it is recommended to run it with an administrator account. Sometimes, the task scheduler needs special privileges to work properly. It is also recommended that the administrator account you use to run the Task Scheduler service have a “password” to log in. Sometimes, the Task Scheduler service does not work properly if the administrator account has not set a login password.
Temporarily disable Windows Defender
Step 1: Click on “Settings” in the “Start Menu”. Then select “Update and security”.
Step 2: In the left pane, select Windows Security and select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
Step 3: Open Windows Defender Settings, then click the Virus and Threat Protection Settings link.
Step 4: Click on the Real-time Protection, Cloud Protection and Automatic Sample Submission buttons to disable Windows Defender.
Update Windows
Reviewing and installing Windows updates, such as Service Packs and other critical patches and updates, is a necessary part of running any Windows operating system.
Press or click on the Start menu, and then tap Settings. Select Update and Security, then Windows Update on the left.
Check for new Windows 10 updates by touching or clicking the Check for Updates button.
