The cumulative update of Windows 10 KB4507453 published by Microsoft on July 9 would have caused a restart notification loop on some of the computers on which it was installed.

This problem was reported by Windows users on several websites and computer support forums across the Web, all describing exactly the same problem – they were asked to restart their devices to complete the installation of the KB4507453 update even if it was already installed.

While several users of Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows Server version 1903 would have already been affected by this problem, Microsoft has not yet publicly confirmed the problem with the restart notification loop.

Everything will then work as expected, with Windows 10 usually restarting on the desktop. However, the same cumulative update will appear in Windows Update within minutes after you logged into Windows and requested a restart.

Regardless of the computer’s restart frequency, KB4507453 always returns and requests another restart. Microsoft has yet to recognize the problem. Other versions of Windows 10 that received cumulative updates on July 9 do not have the same problems.

As Microsoft has not yet confirmed the error, there is no recommended workaround solution, although users who have encountered the problem have given some tips that could help you avoid the prompt to restart the device.

One of them is easier than you think. If it requests a system reboot, the update will display this message in Windows Update. However, most users go to the Start menu to restart. Instead, you should try to restart the system directly from the command prompt in Windows Update.

For some reason, this seems to prevent the cumulative update from requesting a restart after reconnecting to the office, but it’s not even something that works for everyone.
