The Windows Taskbar Clock displays the date and time. Day, month and year are displayed – and hours and minutes are seconds. In this post we see how to display the second in the clock taskbar with the registry in Windows 10 v1607 or third freeware under Windows 7/8/10.
Before continuing, it is important to know why Microsoft has not integrated this capability into the Windows operating system. Was the constant blinking of the large intestine too disturbing?
Microsoft said,
The two blinking dots and the constantly updated time killed our reference numbers. On machines with only 4 MB RAM (the minimum memory required for Windows 95), the 4K RAM savings had a notable impact on benchmarks. The flashing of the clock every second prevented not only the code paths for text reading, but also the taskbar window procedure, stack and data memory, and all context structures related to the Explorer process from being switched. Add to that all the memory that was still available, and you had significantly more than 4K.
Now that we know why the Windows taskbar clock does not display the seconds, let’s move on.
We have already seen how to add the day of the week to the taskbar clock, now let’s see if we can add seconds to the taskbar time.
