Windows 10 has a location tracking or what many call GPS tracking. You need to tell Windows 10 and some applications that it is possible to track your position with GPS, but when you do, these applications – and Windows 10 itself – know where you are. However, there are ways to disable GPS tracking under Windows 10.

Adjusting the location of your device allows you to activate certain Windows functions, such as automatic time zone setting or correct operation of my device. When the device location setting is enabled, Microsoft Location Service uses a combination of Global Positioning Service (GPS), nearby wireless access points, mobile phone towers and your IP address to determine the location of your device. Depending on the capabilities of your device, the location of your device can be determined with different degrees of accuracy and, in some cases, can be determined with precision.

How does Windows know my location?

Like it or not, the Internet is not only a question of freedom, it is also a question of double transparency. This way, your operating system recognizes your location at your IP address or the wireless network you are using. Yes, your relationships rarely go unnoticed in today’s world.

Why does Windows need my location?

Your operating system, which collects your location data, does not mean that someone is spying on you right now. Because the information in question is valuable for certain applications that can use it to do their job effectively – such as providing weather forecasts or guiding you through your city’s maze.
