Review and Download your Data

Before you start, visit Google Takeout to securely download all the data from your Gmail and Google accounts. Depending on how much you have saved, this may take some time.

We’ll start this process from your Gmail inbox. Go to the Gmail website and sign in to the account you want to delete.

  • Then click the menu icon in the top right corner, and then click Account.
  • You’ll be taken to the Google Account management page. Click ‘Data and personalization’ in the sidebar here.
  • Scroll down and click “Delete a service or your account. If you haven’t already done so, you should first click ‘Download Data’ to download a copy of all your Google data. We can’t stress enough how important this step is, as you’re about to permanently delete everything.

How to Delete your Google Account

Note: If you have more than one Google Account, deleting one account does not delete the others.

  • Go to myaccount.google.com
  • On the left, click Data and Personalization.
  • Scroll to “Download data, delete data, or create a plan for your data.
  • Click on “Delete a service or your account”.
  • Click on “Delete your account”.

Deleting an entire Google Account means that the content in your Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Photos accounts will be lost and you will no longer have access to the subscriptions (such as apps, movies, games, music, and TV shows) purchased with that account on YouTube or Google Play. If a Google Chrome browser syncs with the deleted Google Account, the browser’s information, including bookmarks, will also be deleted.
