Do you want to make your Notion layout more aesthetically pleasing? There are several ways to approach this question with the layout of blocks and images, but the most transforming is to change the icons. Notion’s pizzas are based on the elegant integration of emoticons. Of course, there are competing tools that offer relatively the same features. But they are far from being as beautiful and as customizable.
Here are the 17 sets of symbols I use for my pages. Remember that before using any of these symbols for commercial purposes, you must name the author. I include a link to the author under each icon.
Add emojis in the text
Although Notion is advanced and feature-rich, it does not have a built-in emoji function. But don’t worry. You may not know it, but Windows and MacOS devices can add emojis where they’re supported – and Notion definitely supports them.
- To see the list of emojis available for adding to Notion text, select the location in the text where you want to add an emoji and press Win + . Make sure you don’t use the “.” key on the numeric keypad, but the “.” symbol. For MacOS devices, use Cmd + Ctrl + space.
- A list of all available emoticons will be displayed. And this is the essence of how to add emoticons to text in Notion and everywhere else.
Adding a cover in Notion
The cover appears as a banner at the top of each page and adds a touch of elegance, colour and style (even in databases) 🖌
To add a cover page:
- Move the mouse over the top of any page and click on “Add a cover page”.
- Move the mouse over the displayed cover page and select “Change Cover”.
- A menu will appear with a gallery of choices organized by Notion.
- Click on “Upload” to add your own image from your computer or click on “Link” to insert the URL of an image from the Internet.
- You can also search and select an image from Unsplash, a library of over 1,000,000 beautiful, usable stock photos.

Add emojis and images to Notion
The term is not strict when it comes to emoticons. In fact, it has some standard symbols that already have emoticons. But there are many other ways to make your site look the way you want it to. Use the emoji, icon and cover options to create the perfect workspace for you and your team.
