With the Xbox Action for Google wizard, you can interact with your Xbox One using only your voice. Turn on and off your console, launch games and applications, play and pause videos, and more, from any Google Wizard-compatible device.
After extensive beta testing, Microsoft has officially released Xbox One support for Google Assistant. In addition to adding a host of useful commands, it’s surprisingly easy to implement!
Controlling the Xbox One by voice command is still very old for now. It was a key element of the console when it was introduced in 2013 with the now defunct Kinect camera, and later the Cortana and Alexa PDAs. The addition of Google Assistant offers more choice than functionality. And make no mistake: there’s plenty to choose from. If you want to use a virtual assistant, it’s annoying to switch to others when they’re exclusive to your favorite devices.

How to Use Google Assistant on Xbox One
- Control Panel: The Google Wizard can remotely turn your console on and off and restart it with commands such as “Hey Google, turn on Xbox” or “Hey Google, restart Xbox”.
- Launch games and applications: You can launch games or applications using only your voice with commands such as “Hey Google, start Gears 5” or “Hey Google, start Netflix”. You can also switch to specific TV channels when you pass them through your Xbox.
- Volume control: When you launch games and applications from your Xbox, you can also control the sound with commands such as “Hey Google, Mute Xbox” or “Hey Google, Turn Xbox Down”. This also works the other way around.
- Media control: In the same way, you can control the media on your Xbox when you are in an application with commands like “Hey Google, Pause” or “Hey Google, Next”. This also works the other way around.
- Screenshots: One of the coolest features, in my opinion, is that you can use commands like “Hey Google, take a screenshot on Xbox” or “Hey Google, save this to Xbox” to have the Google Wizard take screenshots or record clips. Now you don’t need to remove yourself from the game to capture that last moment of fantastic gaming.
Microsoft and Google may add more commands in the future, but for now, there is already a decent enough suite for everyone who regularly uses the Google Assistant in their lives. Now you can set everything up exactly the way you want it before you go home.
