The long-awaited Star Citizen 3.0 update has arrived, and fans are dusting off their old accounts to see what’s added to the game. However, if you are even a little bit like me, you are tormented by error codes 10002. and 15006 when trying to connect to Star Citizen servers. In the past deleting, moving or double-checking files was sometimes a trick to display server errors. However, this time the problem is probably not with you.
Below we will explain why the error codes 10002 and 15006 appear in Star Citizen and some possible fixes that will make them disappear.
You can see the error 10002 when trying to start the game from the startup tool.
- This is usually a network / communication problem between your computer, network and our game servers.
- This error appeared on the disks with the old startup program or corrupted files of the startup program.
- This error can appear when a player tries to connect to a public test universe (PTU) when they are not available. Make sure that you do not use the Launcher PTU when the PTU is not open for testing. Check the status of the PTU servers.
Your firewall blocks the Star Citizen client connection
When you run Star Citizen for the first time, the Windows Firewall should ask you if you want to allow access to the client network. If you don’t click “Allow access” ignoring the pop-up window or clicking “Cancel”, it’s possible that your firewall is blocking the client. This leads to an error with code 10002 because the client cannot connect to the CIG servers.

Removal of incorrect RSI entries
In fact, this problem may occur due to incorrect entries on RSI servers. This script has been confirmed by several users who encountered error 10002 when trying to run Star Citizen the usual way.
Fortunately, you can solve this problem by going to the place where your Windows installation contains the RSI server records and removing the problematic files. In addition, you can easily reset the host files to their default values.
Here is a quick guide to removing the wrong RSI records to fix the 10002 error with Star Citizen:
- Press Windows Key + R to open the “Run” dialog box. Enter “C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc” in the text box and press Enter to open the default Hosts file location.
- Once you are in the etc folder, first go to the View tab at the top and make sure that the checkbox associated with file name extensions is checked.
- Once you have successfully made your extensions visible, right-click the hosts file and select “Rename” from the pop-up menu that appears.
- Then add the extension “.old” to the end of the file name and press Enter to save your changes. Essentially, this change tells your operating system to ignore this file and create a new instance, which will not be followed by the same incorrect entries.
- Restart Star Citizen and see if the same error code appears at the end.
Update Star Citizen 3 Launcher
Star Citizen 3.0 comes with a new launch program. My startup program was not automatically updated to the latest version. When I tried to download and play the PTU version of the game, I kept getting the error code 10002. This is because you will need a new startup program to download the PTU 3.0. The old startup module only loads the PTU 2.6.3 which went off and called the 10002 code.
To get a delta patch that will allow you to access Star Citizen 3.0 click here. The download section on the website still needs to be updated to include the new startup program. So, if you download from there, you will get the old patch 2.6.3.
Finally, it is quite possible that the game servers are not working or that the maintenance process continues while you are trying to start the Star Citizen game. In this case you should close the game and wait a few hours before trying again.
However, if none of the methods work for you, please contact the developer support team or the forums for help.
