With LinkedIn, you can add multiple email addresses to your profile, which can be useful if you have several companies or people who need to contact you in different ways depending on your needs.

However, LinkedIn requires that you set one email address as your primary email address. To change your primary email address, you must update your contact information in the LinkedIn settings.

How to Remove your Email Address on LinkedIn

You can remove email addresses from your LinkedIn account from the Account section of your Settings and Privacy page.

To delete an email address:

  • Click the I icon in the upper right corner of your LinkedIn home page.
  • Select Settings and Privacy from the drop-down list.
  • Under the Login and Security section, in the Account tab, next to the email addresses, click Edit.
  • Click Add Email Address and enter the new email address in the text box.
  • Click Delete next to the existing email address.

Note: To delete a primary email address, you must first make one of your secondary email addresses your new primary email address. Only then will the “Delete” link appear next to the email address.

If you have forgotten your password, you will not be able to access your LinkedIn account immediately. The same applies if your online password manager, such as LastPass or DashLane, does not have the correct credentials stored. You must know your LinkedIn password before you can change your email address. In most cases, the easiest way is to ask LinkedIn to send you a link to change your password. It takes less than a minute to request a new password link and change your LinkedIn account password.

If you follow these steps, you can change your LinkedIn password:

  • Go to LinkedIn.com
  • Click on the “Login” button in the upper right corner
  • Click on “Forgot Password” in the main window.
  • Enter the email address associated with your LinkedIn account
  • Go to your email inbox and look for a new LinkedIn email message.
  • Click on the link in the email
  • Create a new password for your LinkedIn account on the page that opens.

Management of Existing Email Addresses on LinkedIn

To make your new email address the primary email address for the account, click on “Make this your primary email address” at the appropriate email address. You will need to re-enter your LinkedIn password, then click “Make primary” to change your primary email address.

You may choose to delete one of your old email addresses if you no longer wish it to be associated with your account by clicking the “Delete” button. Again, you will need to re-enter your password to confirm that you wish to delete an email address.
