If you have just installed Windows 10 and experience a freezing problem after opening Microsoft Edge, it may be because the State Repository Service uses a lot of CPU resources simultaneously. This is a common problem with newly installed Windows 10 users. Because of this problem, your computer may freeze and you may not be able to work properly on your PC. This can also happen if you open a link in Microsoft Edge after installing Windows 10. This service can take up to 90% of CPU resources, which can result in a high CPU load on your computer.
The status repository service helps users take a snapshot of a browser session so that the person can return to that session using another browser on another device. Here are some solutions that can help you solve the problem.
1] Restart the state repository service
The state repository service is enabled by default and you should leave it enabled so that you can use the features described above. Restarting the Windows service can help solve the problem. To do this, run services.msc to open the Service Manager and find the State Repository Service. Right-click and select Restart.
If the Restart option is grayed out, double-click the service, first press the Stop button, and when the service is finished, press the Start button to restart it.
2] Disable/stop the state repository service
If the above proposal does not help you, you can temporarily disable the state repository service from the service manager itself. Just stop and continue working on the PC. This will not affect your work. Alternatively, you can open the Task Manager, find the Service Service Host State Repository Service under the Process tab , check its CPU usage, and if it is high, right-click and select Finish Task .
3] Repair or reset Microsoft Edge
Sometimes a corrupted file in Microsoft Edge can cause such a problem. So you can repair or reset the Edge browser. Microsoft has included an option in Windows settings under > Apps > Apps > Apps & Features. Locate Microsoft Edge and click Advanced Options.
Then click the Repair button . It will take a few minutes for everything to be ready. If this does not help, use the Reset option.
4] Reinstall UWP applications
If the problem is not limited to Microsoft Edge and other applications such as preference application exceeds CPU, you should consider reinstalling all embedded UWP applications. You can use our 10AppsManager to easily uninstall and reinstall Windows Store applications in Windows 10.
Best wishes!
