Error 0x80070003 is a type of Windows file backup and recovery. This error occurs when you copy files or try to backup and restore files and folders using Windows Backup and Restore.
This error prevents you from using the file or folder search. This prevents you from browsing and restoring files on your PC in the File Recovery Wizard.
The complete error message you receive when you try to upgrade to Windows 8.1 should be “SOMETHING HAPPENED AND THE WINDOWS 8.1 couldn’t be INSTALLED”. PLEASE TRY AGAIN. ERROR CODE: 0x80070003.”
To identify the cause of this error, first run a ‘vssadmin list writers’ from a command line (DOS) on the machine after the backup fails.
Create a new account

Locate and right-click on the “SoftwareDistribution” folder and select Rename.
Rename the “SoftwareDistribution” folder to “SoftwareDistributionOLD” and press Enter.
Ask “YES” about the UAC warning and proceed to the next step.
Start the Windows Update Service and try to update your computer.
