One or a combination of the following errors can be displayed in the STOP message:

STOP: 0x0000008E
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

This behaviour can occur if one of the following conditions is met:

One or more of the RAM (Random Access Memory) modules installed on your computer are defective.
RAM configuration is not compatible with Windows.

The BSOD error 0x0000008E can also be abbreviated as STOP 0x8E, but the complete STOP code is always the one displayed on the blue STOP message.

Remove New Hardware

If you have installed new hardware or made changes to your hardware, this may result in the STOP 0x0000008E error.

The new hardware may not be compatible with your RAM or motherboard. To correct the error, try deleting or reconfiguring the newly installed hardware.

  • Download Memtest86+.
  • Start the installation program, select your USB key and click Create and make sure that the Format
  • drive option is selected, otherwise errors may occur.
  • Reboot your computer and press F11 to access the Bios, if F11 does not work, read your system’s online instructions to see which key you can put in the BIOS to boot from USB and manually which device you want to boot from.
  • Select your USB key from the list.
  • Memtest is started automatically and checks that your memory does not contain any errors.
