It turns out that this particular problem can be caused by different scenarios. Here’s a list of potential culprits that could be responsible:
- NAT closed
- Firmware error
Power cycle
- Make sure your Xbox console is turned on.
- Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds.
- When the console stops completely, release the button.
- Disconnect all cables connected to the console, including the power cord.
- Leave the console alone for a few minutes.
- Reconnect all cables and the power cord to the power outlet.
- Press the Xbox button on the console to activate it.
- After turning it on, try to join a group and look for updates.
Check to see if the NAT is closed.
- Make sure your Xbox One console is connected to the network.
- Open a standard web browser and enter the following address:
- 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
- If the default setting does not work, refer to your router’s manual for the correct address to access the settings.
- Log in with the user credentials on the page. The default user credentials for the router are admin and 1234.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Expand the NAT forwarding option.
- Make sure that the UPnP option is enabled. The steps for accessing the UPnP setup may vary depending on the router manufacturer.
- After enabling the UPnP option, restart the router and console.
- Try logging back into the group and look for improvements.
Several users have reported that enabling the UPnP option helped solve the problem. By enabling UPnP, all applications and games can automatically reroute ports and thus solve connectivity problems.

Restart the IP Helper service.

Reconnect your Xbox One console
The Xbox One console stores all temporary files in its cache. When these files get corrupted, you will get an error 0x89231806. Clear the cache to fix the problem.
You can do this by reconnecting the console:
1) Press and hold the Xbox button on the console until it turns off.
2) Unplug the power cord after turning it off.
3) Do not leave the cord plugged in for at least 1 minute.
4) Reconnect the power cord. Then press and hold the Xbox button on the console until it lights up.
5) See if you can start or join the party on your Xbox One.
