It is important to keep your computer up to date, not only to ensure that you have the latest operating system fixes and security enhancements, but also to have an environment that works efficiently.

Usually, the latest updates are installed automatically when you restart your computer. However, manual updates are sometimes necessary. Unfortunately, users have sometimes reported a message indicating that an unrecoverable error occurred during the installation of the Windows Update Agent.

This is especially true if Windows was forced to check for updates to correct the process, or if the Windows Update Agent was updated manually.

Ultimately, the error is one that caused a system or application component to fail to perform one of its normal operations correctly. There are several recommended solutions to resolve this problem, and we will discuss them.

Delete files from previous installations

Use the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleaning Utility to remove traces of previous installations. This utility does not remove files installed by the installation that may need to be manually deleted.

Make sure the user account has administrative rights to install software.

If you are running your installation on a Windows computer, you are more likely to be the administrator of your computer. Follow these steps to confirm that you have administrative rights on your computer:

The program fixes common errors that might occur on Windows systems with ease - no need for hours of troubleshooting when you have the perfect solution at your fingertips:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

Download Now

  • Select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
  • In the Computer Management dialog box, click System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users.
  • Right-click your user name and select Properties.
  • In the Properties dialog box, select the Member of tab and make sure it says Administrator.

If you are installing the application on a Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer, the user name specified in Run as must be the default administrator (the user name must be Administrator) and not another member of the Administrator group.

  • Type services.msc in the box and click OK.
  • Right-click the Windows Installer and select “Stop”.
