This error may occur if there is a conflict between the input and output folder settings. Go to Settings > Update and Security > Backup, then click the Other Options link. Scroll to the Excluded Folders section and note the folders listed. Then check the Include Folders section to ensure that none of the included folders match or are sub-folders of any of the excluded folders.
If you exclude a folder or library, none of the subfolders can be included in the file history. If you try to work around this problem by including a specific subfolder, this error occurs.

How to correct the error code 0x80040304?
Start a clean boot to see what causes the error.
When Windows starts, a smooth boot is performed with a minimum of drivers and boot programs. This avoids software conflicts that occur when you install a program or update or run a program on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista. You can also troubleshoot or determine which conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.
If your computer stops displaying this error message when you try to delete the file on restart, the problem you have may be related to some of your drivers or programs you have recently installed.
- Make sure you are logged into your computer with an administrator account because you cannot perform some of the actions described in these steps.

- Open your search box from the Start menu and search for msconfig. The first result should be called System Configuration, so be sure to open it.

Go to the Group Policy Editor and change some settings.
To be able to delete some files from your operating system, you must open the Group Policy Editor with administrator rights and change the settings. To do this, try to do the following:
- Click on the Win button and type gpedit.msc.
- Right-click on the search result and select Run as administrator.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administration Templates -> Windows Components -> Data and Preview Constructions.
- Look for Allow telemetry in the right pane and double-click on it.
- Select On.
- Then locate the drop-down menu in the Options and select Finish.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- In the Group Policy Editor, double-click Allow Telemetry.
- Select Unconfigured and press OK.
- Close the Group Policy Editor and try to delete the file(s) that previously triggered error code 0x80040304.
