Rerun the failed updates
First, try again to run failed updates; this could help Windows find the missing file and fix the error “0x8007065E Data of this type not supported”. Therefore, follow these steps to re-run failed updates:
- In the Start menu, go to the Control Panel, then to Windows Update.
- Then click on the view update history.
- If you see the updates failed, you can try to download the files again.
- Then install failed updates manually.
Fix SoftwareDistribution Folder
Normally, if there are corrupted installation files that could cause this problem, they are stored in the SoftwareDistribution folder. So, if you rename this folder, then try to download and reinstall the updates, Windows will be forced to recreate the folder and solve the problem. Once Windows has recreated this folder, it downloads a new copy that solves the corruption problem.
Here are the steps to follow to rename this folder from the command prompt:
Press the Windows key once
Enter the prompt in the Start Search field.
Right-click on the command prompt in the search results Start Search.
Select Run as administrator.
Type NET STOP WUAUSERV and press Enter
Type REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD and press Enter
Type NET START WUAUSERV and press Enter
If you follow the steps above, you can correct the Windows Update 0x8007065e error code.
