Autorun is used to automatically start certain advanced multimedia programs or content when you insert a CD, DVD or other type of media into your computer. This is different from automatic playback, but the result is often the same: When the CD is inserted, it starts automatically with a specific program.
AutoPlay allows you to choose the program to use to start different types of media such as DVDs, CDs, etc. containing music, videos, photos, etc. For example, if you are trying to play a music CD for the first time, AutoPlay will ask you which media player to use if you have more than one installed on your computer. To prevent the spread of malware via the AutoRun mechanism, Microsoft has made an important change, starting with Windows 7, AutoPlay no longer supports AutoRun functionality for non-optical removable media. In other words, AutoPlay still works for CD/DVD, but not for USB drives.
AutoPlay on Windows 8/10

Type gpedit.msc in the Run field, then press ENTER to open the Group Policy Editor. Under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Click Auto Read Policies.
In the RHS Details area, double-click Disable Auto Playback to open the Properties field.
This policy setting allows you to disable the auto playback function. AutoPlay starts playback from a player when you insert media into the player. This will immediately launch the program installation file and music on the audio support. Before Windows XP SP2, Autoplay is disabled by default on removable drives such as the floppy disk drive (but not the CD-ROM drive) and network drives. Starting with Windows XP SP2, Autoplay is also enabled for removable drives, including Zip drives and some USB mass storage devices. If you enable this policy setting , AutoPlay is disabled on CD-ROM and removable media drives or on all drives. This policy setting disables automatic playback on other types of players. You cannot use this setting to enable auto playback on players where it is disabled by default. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, AutoPlay is enabled.

RHS displays dword NoDriveTypeAutoRun. The default value is 60 or 3C. Right-click and give it a decimal value of 255 (or hexadecimal value 000000FF). Exit regedit. Restart. This disables AutoRun on all disks.
