  1. Download and install the repair tool here.
  2. Let it scan your computer.
  3. The tool will then repair your computer.

If you have Windows 10/8.1 installed, you will notice that the upgrade has a deep SkyDrive or OneDrive integration. The upgrade includes seamless integration of File Explorer, Document Save and Camera Roll to give users a relatively fast way to store files in the cloud. However, there are no configuration options for SkyDrive integration. There seems to be no option to uninstall the service if you wish.

Although you can disable and delete OneDrive Sync Data in Windows 10/8.1 at any time, you can disable integration with Windows 8.1 if you are not using SkyDrive at all.

Follow this tutorial to learn how to do it.

Using the Group Policy Editor

Disabling the service requires access to the Group Policy Editor. If your version of Windows has the Group Policy Editor, press Win+R in combination to display the’Run’ dialog box. Enter gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Navigate from the displayed local group policy editor to the next path:

Local computer policiesComputer configurationManagement templatesWindows componentsSkyDrive

Then double-click Prevent SkyDrive from saving files. Select Enabled and click Apply/OK.

Note that you cannot access your SkyDrive files from the SkyDrive application when this policy setting is enabled. The SkyDrive node is removed from the left navigation area of the explorer. File synchronization is stopped!

In addition, the changes prevent applications and features from interacting with Microsoft’s cloud storage service, including:

  1. It is not possible to download photos and videos from the camera’s role folder.
  2. Users cannot access SkyDrive via the SkyDrive application and file selection.
  3. Access to SkyDrive via the WinRT API is not possible.

If you want to cancel the changes, simply select Not configured. After that, all your applications and features will work again and the SkyDrive folder will appear again in the File Explorer.

Using the Registry Editor

If your Windows version does not have the Group Policy Editor, you can use the Registry Editor to disable SkyDrive integration in Windows 8.1 Type regedit in Start Search, right-click the result and select Run as Administrator. Create the following key if it does not already exist:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREP PoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSkydrive

Create a new DWORD and name it DisableFileSync. Enter the value 1 to disable OneDrive. To activate OneDrive, delete the data or set it to 0

Hopefully this will help!

See this message if you want to completely uninstall OneDrive from Windows 10 and remove this device from the OneDrive message.
