How to disable Internet Explorer end-of-life notification

In November 2015, Microsoft announced that it would discontinue support for Internet Explorer 10, IE9 and IE8 effective January 12, 2016. From this date, users of these obsolete versions of Internet Explorer will receive notifications asking them to update their browser to the latest version, namely Internet Explorer 11 This notification will be delivered via a cumulative security update KB3123303, which will be published shortly.

Disable notification when updating Internet Explorer

First check if you are using an x64 or x86 based system.

Once you know whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit system, boot regedit to open the registry editor.

If you are using a 64-bit computer , navigate to the following registry key :

Right click FeatureControl, point to New, then click Key.

Type FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, then press Enter to name the new key.

Right-click FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, point to New, then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type iexplore.exe, then press Enter to name the new value.

Finally, right-click iexplore.exe, then click Edit. In the Value field, type 00000001, then click OK.

After doing this, look for the following subkey :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMainFeatureControl

Right click FeatureControl, point to New, then click Key.

Type FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, then press Enter to name the new key.

Right-click FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, point to New, then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type iexplore.exe, then press Enter to name the new value.

Finally, right-click iexplore.exe, then click Edit. In the Value field, type 00000001, then click OK.

If you are using a 32-bit computer , navigate to the following registry key :

Right click FeatureControl, point to New, then click Key.

Type FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, then press Enter to name the new key.

Right-click FEATURE_DISABLE_IE11_SECURITY_EOL_NOTIFICATION, point to New, then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type iexplore.exe, then press Enter to name the new value.

Finally, right-click iexplore.exe, then click Edit. In the Value Data field, type 1, then click OK.

This is all you need to do for x86 systems.

Exit the Registry Editor and restart Internet Explorer.
