We have already seen how Data execution prevention, a security feature can help prevent damage caused to your computer by viruses and other security threats. Malicious programs that attempt to attack Windows by attempting to execute code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs are stopped. This type of attack can harm your programs and files. DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to ensure they are using system memory safely. If DEP detects a program on your computer that uses the memory incorrectly, it closes the program and informs you. It is therefore a security element.
This is not recommended, but you can disable data execution prevention on your Windows computer. Let’s see how to disable DEP under Windows 10/8/7 with the bcdedit.exe tool.
Disable data execution prevention
On Windows, type cmd in Start search. Right-click on the’cmd’ search results and click Run as administrator. Windows 10/8 users can also open a high command prompt window from the WinX menu.
Then copy the following and press Enter :
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Restart.
You will notice that data execution prevention has been disabled on your Windows computer. You can then check the status of the data execution prevention function on your system if you wish.
