But sometimes the desktop or window is not automatically updated and changes are displayed; you have to update it manually, either by pressing F5 or via the context menu.

If you find that you need to update your desktop frequently, you can follow these steps to resolve the problem.
Open the registry editor and navigate to the next registry key :
6432NodeHKEY_CLASSES_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID
64-bit users may need to watch :
6432NodeHKCRWow6432NodeCLSID
Right-click here on CLSID and select Search to search . If you find it and it has a value of 1, change its value to 0.
You will probably find it in one of these locations, depending on whether your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit:
6432NodeHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{BDEADE7F-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}Instance
6432NodeHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID{BDEADE7F-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}Instance
If you don’t see it, you must create the path {BDEADE7F-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}Instancedontrefresh at each level by right-clicking and selecting New > DWORD as follows :
-
-
- Right click > New > Button > Description {BDEADE7F-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}.
- Right click > New > Button > Instance name
- Instance right click > New > DWORD for 32-bit systems -OR- QWORD for 64-bit systems.
- Right-click the word, rename it to includingrefresh, and give it a value 0.
-
It is known that in most cases this has helped to solve the problem.
If not, here are some other suggestions:
1] Use Nirsoft ShellExView and disable third-party shell extensions that might prevent Windows Explorer from working properly. This can be a trial and error method.
2] In the Task Manager, exit and restart the explorer.exe process. Restore the Explorer default settings. To do this, open the folder options and click Restore Defaults on the General tab. Click Apply and Exit.
Reconstructing the icon cache helped them solve the problem.
4] Restart in the clean start state and try to solve the problem.
This problem seems to be so widespread – even an acronym exists: WEDR – Windows Explorer does not update ! The BSOD now has a companion! 🙂
Microsoft has released some fixes to fix such problems with KB960954 and KB823291. Please check if they apply to your operating system and situation before deciding to download and use them.
See this article if your desktop icons load slowly when you start Windows 10.
