Cortana is Microsoft’s virtual assistant integrated into Windows 10, designed to help you with tasks, provide reminders, and answer questions. However, like any digital assistant, Cortana collects data about you to personalize the experience. If you’re concerned about your privacy, you may want to delete and remove all the personal data that Cortana has gathered. Here’s how you can manage your data and ensure your privacy is protected in Windows 10.
Signing Out from Cortana
Before you begin clearing data, it’s a good idea to sign out from Cortana. This stops any further data collection as you go about the process.
- Click on the Cortana icon on your taskbar.
- Select the user icon at the top left corner of the menu.
- Click on “Sign out” to log out of your account.
Disabling Speech Services
To stop your computer from using your speech patterns for better recognition, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app by pressing Windows key + I.
- Click on Privacy.
- Select Speech, inking, & typing.
- Turn off Speech services and typing suggestions. This will disable the speech-to-text features and stop collecting your typing and inking data. Note that this action does not impact offline capabilities, such as Windows Speech Recognition.
