Virtual machines or VMs allow you to run different operating systems on a single machine – guest operating systems. This is often useful when you need to test software on different operating systems, test upgrade scenarios, or perform other activities. When you have finished the task, you can reset the machine to its formal state.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to configure Hyper-V and create virtual machines under Windows 8/10.
Hyper-V on Windows 8/10
December 2024 Update:
You can now prevent PC problems by using this tool, such as protecting you against file loss and malware. Additionally, it is a great way to optimize your computer for maximum performance. The program fixes common errors that might occur on Windows systems with ease - no need for hours of troubleshooting when you have the perfect solution at your fingertips:
- Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
- Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
First, make sure that hardware virtualization support is enabled in the BIOS settings.
Only when hardware virtualization support is available and enabled, continue. Enable Hyper-V in the Enable or Disable Windows Features dialog box. To do this, enter the option Rotate window functions in the Search parameters field and select the dialog box in the right part of the window.
Next, configure the network for the Hyper-V environment. Before continuing, make sure that a virtual switch has been created and is operational. To verify this, open the Virtual Switch Manager located in the Hyper-V Manager Actions window (type Hyper-V on the Home screen to find the Hyper-V Manager).
After clicking Virtual Switch Manager in the Actions area, make sure External is selected, then click the Create Virtual Switch button.
If you have more than one network card in your system, make sure you have selected the network card to use for external network connections of the VM.
There are many ways to create VMs to rebuild a VMs from scratch by starting PXE from the network. To create a VM, simply click on New Virtual Machine…………… under Actions in the right pane of the Hyper-V manager. A wizard for new virtual machines should appear on your computer screen. Select a VM name and specify a path for the VM file.
Then go to’Allocate memory’ section. Although you can choose from the range (8-13642 MB), you can assign more than the minimum storage space to the virtual machine. Enter the desired quantity.
In the right pane, select’Configure Networking’ and go to the virtual you created previously.
Then select’Connect virtual disk’ and enable the’Create virtual disk’ option and click’Finish’. To do this,
Start the settings dialog for the VM that requires network boot support, and then click Add Hardware in the left pane. If the’Add Hardware’ section in the right column is enlarged, click the’Add’ button and make sure the correct virtual switch is used.
Once the VM is ready, it is ready to start PXE and install the operating system. If you click on the green start button of your VM in the right part of Hyper-V Manager, you will see the familiar PXE start menu where you can press F-12 to start the network.
It works exactly like booting from a physical machine. Check the use of network boot to start a clean Windows 7 installation.
If you have configured your VMs, there are two ways to interact and connect to your virtual machines : Hyper-V Manager and Remote Desktop Connection via Remote Desktop Protocol.
