Microsoft has released a patch to fix a problem that causes backups to fail and records Event ID 12293 on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
If you try to perform a backup on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, the backup stops immediately after startup and the next event is recorded in the application log:
Event ID : 12293
Source : VSS
Message : Volume Shadow Copy Service Error: Error when calling a routine on a dummy copy provider.
