Once this condition is met, open Windows Store by clicking its tile on your home screen. Now open Charms Bar and click Settings. Now click on App updates.

It is enabled by default. To disable automatic updates for your Windows applications, select No.

If you are not using a Microsoft account, but a local account on your PC, you can disable the automatic update feature via group policy – if your version of Windows 8 has one.

Open Run, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

To configure settings, double-click Disable automatic download of Win8 machine updates in the right pane.

Select On. Click Apply and Exit.

This policy enables or disables automatic downloading of application updates on PCs running Windows 8. If you disable this setting, automatic download of application updates is enabled. If you do not configure this setting, the automatic download of application updates is determined by a registry setting that the user can change using the Windows store settings. Automatically download and install updates that enable or disable automatic download AND install application updates.
