Windows Sysinternals develops some very useful and good applications for Windows. Whether you are a computer professional or a general Windows user, you can use many Sysinternals utilities. You do not need to install the application, as it is a standalone application.

Workstations allow you to create virtual workstations; in fact, three additional workstations are created in addition to the one you are running. It is very small if you download only 60 KB. Unlike other virtual desktop utilities that implement their desktops by displaying active windows on a desktop and hiding the rest, Sysinternals Desktops uses a Windows desktop object for each desktop.

You can let the application start automatically under Windows. The application is not reduced to the taskbar, but only to the notification area. You can adjust the shortcut keys so that you can easily switch from one virtual desktop to another.

If you forgot which desktop you were working on, you will see its icon in the taskbar. The icon indicates which desktop you are working on.

The program interface is very user-friendly. There’s not much on the interface – no menus, no buttons – except OK and Cancel, etc.

You can minimize it in the taskbar after completing your settings and clicking OK. Don’t forget to check the’Run automatically on login’ box so you don’t have to open the application each time you log in.

You can download it for Windows 7/8 on SysInternals. You can also start workstations from SysInternals Live.

NOTE: Windows 10 includes the virtual desktop function.
