Often there are situations where computer support, system administrators or even in Windows forums are required for your system specifications and/or logs such as event logs or MSINFO32 files and even dump files to repair various system crashes and blue screens.

It is sometimes difficult to obtain all this information easily. After helping many people on the online forums, I realized that there had to be an easy way to collect logs so that the person facing the problem and the caregiver could save time and energy by simply doing this work of collecting error log files. That’s why I developed this Windows 8 Log Collector application for the latest Windows operating system, Windows 8.

Brief explanation of logs collected :

MSINFO32

MSINFO32 a.k.a. System information tool, collects system information, such as devices installed on your computer or device drivers loaded on your computer, and provides a menu for displaying associated system topics. You can use system information to diagnose computer problems.

Minidump is usually generated after a crash, i.e. after a Blue Screen of Death. It is created in the Windows directory in a folder called Minidump.

When a system crashes, it takes a snapshot of the computer’s state at the exact time of the crash and analyzes it with a traditional debugger.

Minidump contains information such as call stacks of all threads in the failed process, bug checking code, driver list with date and time, logs, and so on, that helps us identify what is wrong with the system or what caused the BSOD, there are many tools to help us analyze the BSOD, but the most comprehensive way to use Windows debugging tools (free tools on the Microsoft website) to learn more about how to analyze them, see this Stop Errors Guide or my blog article.

Event logs

These are generated when the system crashes, crashes or a significant event is generated, or a program requires users to be notified of something – then Windows event logs capture it. There are few types of event logs:

  • Application log
  • Security log
  • Commissioning log
  • System log

This tool only collects application and system logs, and according to Microsoft, these are the explanations :

      • Application log
The application log contains the events recorded by the programs. For example, a database program may record a file error in the application log. The events written to the application log are defined by the software developers.
      • System log
The system log contains the events recorded by the Windows XP system components. For example, if a driver is not loaded at startup, an event is recorded in the system log. Windows XP determines in advance which events system components.

The Hosts file in Windows and other operating systems is used to associate host names with IP addresses. Malware often confuses the host file, often causing problems such as not being able to connect to a specific website or local area network, etc. This is what it looks like:

IEDiagCMD.exe is a small utility that generates the logs needed for troubleshooting with Internet Explorer.

So if you need help collecting your Windows 8 log files, download and use the Windows 8 log collector I developed.

If you want to see and do more with event logs faster than the standard Windows Event Viewer, you can also try our free Windows Event Viewer Plus software.

Expert Tip: This repair tool scans the repositories and replaces corrupt or missing files if none of these methods have worked. It works well in most cases where the problem is due to system corruption. This tool will also optimize your system to maximize performance. It can be downloaded by Clicking Here
