By default, system recovery is enabled on all Windows operating systems, including Windows 10. But some users who have upgraded their computer to Windows 10 report that their System Restore feature has been disabled. It is therefore imperative that all users check if system recovery is enabled on their system and do not turn it on. This article shows you how to enable and enable system recovery under Windows 10.

System recovery is different from system backup. It captures resident programs, their settings and the Windows registry as an image and records some of the things needed to rebuild the system drive to the point – if you choose to go back.

Make sure the system drive protection is set to’On’.

If this is not the case, select the system drive or drive C and press button Configure. The following dialog box opens.

Select Enable system protection and click Apply.

That’s it! You have enabled system recovery on Windows 10/8/7.

After that, you want to create a system restore point immediately. Do this and check if it has been created.

If option Enable system protection is grayed out or missing on your Windows computer, system recovery can be disabled by your system administrator.

You can also use the cmdlet Enable-ComputerRestore. It activates the system recovery function. Therefore, execute the following command in a raised PowerShell window:

PS C:> Enable ComputerRestore drive 'C:'

This command allows system recovery on the C: drive of the local computer.

If system recovery does not work and no system recovery point is created, you can open the Service Manager and ensure that the Shadow Copy & Task Scheduler & Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service works and is set to Automatic.
