Check for Windows updates with two clicks in the context menu

Windows 10 is not a product, but a service. As a service (WaaaS), you cannot choose not to receive Windows updates. And monsters like me like to receive and install new updates. Normally, you will receive updates for your Windows 10 PC over and over again. Get Windows Defender updates every other day and cumulative updates for the supported version of Windows 10 or later every Tuesday.

Although Windows 10 automatically updates your operating system for you, navigating to Settings > Update and Security > Checking for updates from the Windows Updates menu can sometimes be tedious. Today, I will show you how to get this option in your desktop context menu.

Add Windows updates to the context menu

Before you begin, create a system restore point or backup the registry first. Then open the Run field, type regedit , press Enter, and then click Yes in the UAC prompt to open the Registry Editor.

Navigate to the next button :

ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDesktopBackgroundShell

(right click on folder Shell then New > Key and rename the new folder to Check for updates.

Right click Check for updates Folder then New > Key and rename the new folder to Command.

Right-click r on the folder Command New > String value and rename the string value to DelegateExecute

Double-click the string DelegateExecute and enter the value field :

We must now add an icon. Go back and right-click the folder Check for updates , New > Character string value and rename it to SettingsURl

Double-click the string SettingsURl and enter the following in the value field:

ms settings:windowsupdate-action

Right-click the folder Check for updates , New > String Value and rename it Icon

Double-click the icon and enter the following in the value field:

%SystemRoot%System32shell32shell.dll,-47

The hierarchy of your registry records is now similar :

Checking for updates looks like this:

The order file (16) looks like this:

Now simply (16) Restart your PC so that changes can be made. You can now see the item in the desktop context menu.
