Microsoft Flight Simulator debuted for some on PC, bringing every mile of the planet into a virtual world and preparing it for exploration. The latest entry ends with a ten-year hiatus from Microsoft’s classic series and embraces the modern cloud empire for unrivaled scalability. It is difficult to map each country in detail, however, as more than 150 GB must be installed so that more than two petabytes of global data are not ready for streaming.

Microsoft’s handling of the large install size separates the initial game installation and game content, so this initial flight simulator is only a few GB of the total executable. Newbies opening the game for the first time will be faced with the “Content Manager”, which prompts users to download up to 100 GB via the client. This is not a problem – it is expected to be the full installed size of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but it is not ideal if you run into problems.

When Microsoft Flight Simulator loads forever

If you’re having slow download issues, you’re not the only one. Official Microsoft Flight Simulator support recommends disabling any firewalls or antivirus programs during boot, and not using 100GB Wi-Fi if they can help.

They also recommend closing and restarting the app instead of leaving it hanging, as Luke previously recommended. However, if this is not enough, there are several steps you can take:

  • Enter “command” in the Windows search bar and search for “Command Prompt.”
  • From the menu, select Run as administrator.
  • Enter the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel = normal
  • Press Enter

Run Microsoft Flight Simulator as Administrator

It’s a simple trick, but it can sometimes get you out of line. To run the game as an administrator, right-click the game on the desktop or in the start menu and select Run as administrator.

Change your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The problem might be related to your connection to the server. Consider changing your provider. You can also try downloading the game over a cellular network. Then check if the download is ok or the error persists.

However, if you have a good internet connection and any other task or game on your computer works fine, the problem is not with your internet service provider.
