A picture says more than a thousand words, but sometimes a picture needs a few words. It’s easy to add captions and notes to your photos, whether you use an iPhone, Android, PC or Mac. Adjust, crop or rotate a photo

  • Open the Google Photos application on your Android device.
  • Open the photo you want to edit.
  • Tap Edit.
  • To add or adjust a filter, tap Photo Filters.
  • Tap to apply a filter, tap again to adjust it.
  • Tap Edit to manually change lighting and color or add effects.
  • For more options, tap the down arrow.
  • To grow or rotate, tap Crop & Rotate Crop & Rotate.
  • To crop the photo, tap and drag the edges.
  • Tip: While editing, tap and hold the photo to compare your changes to the original.
  • Tap Save in the upper right corner.
  • Your changes will be applied to the photo, but you can always undo them.

If your photos are not saved, your changes are saved as a separate photo.

Drawing, marking or writing on photos

  • Open the Google Photos application on your Android device.
  • Open the photo you want to edit.
  • Tap Edit, and then tap SelectAction.
  • Tap the pen to draw.
  • To add highlights, tap Highlight Highlighter.
  • To add text at the top of a photo, tap Text . To move the text box, tap and hold, and then drag it.
  • Touch: Depending on your device, you may find ExtensionsApps Extension instead of the Markup gesture. To access these features, tap ExtensionsApps Extension and then tapMarkup Gesture.
  • When you are finished, tap Done.
  • To save a copy of the photo with your changes, touch Save As Copy in the upper right corner.
  • If you are drawing, marking, or writing on a moving photo, make sure you have marked enough to cover the intended area when movement is enabled.
  • If your photos are not saved, the changes will be saved as a separate photo.

Saving new images from your motion photos

When you take a moving picture of a friend or group, Google Photos sometimes recommends a different photo from your moving picture. You can also choose your favorite photo.

  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos application.
  • Open a moving photo.
  • Move over the photo.
  • Tap on the photos in that photo.
  • Flip through the photos in your photo and select your favorite shot.
  • If you took the photo with a 3 pixel, you can see the recommended shots. They are covered with a white dot.
  • The original photo is covered with a grey dot.
  • To save a new photo, tap Save Copy.
  • The photos you saved will appear in your Google Photos library next to the original photo.

Change the date and time

To change the date and time of a photo or video, open photos.google.com and tap Computer up to follow the steps.

You can change the date and time of photos and videos using a computer. If you change the date and time of your photo, the changed date and time will appear in Google Photos. However, if you share or download it for other applications, you can view the original date and time recorded by your camera.

Undoing of changes

  • Open the Google Photos application on your Android device.
  • Open the photo with the changes you want to delete.
  • Tap Edit, tap More, and then tap Cancel changes.
  • When you’re done, tap Save.
