Creating a self-managed PowerPoint, as Microsoft calls it, can be a great addition to your company’s booth at industry conventions or conferences. By presenting photos, graphics and key points in an endless loop, you can inform passers-by about your company, its objectives and your products or services.

Automatic presentation playback is also ideal for staff training, for meetings where the speaker is not present, and for reaching customers or clients remotely. Microsoft offers simple steps to turn your PowerPoint presentation into an Autoplay presentation.

Create a Looping PowerPoint Slides in a Presentation

With PowerPoint, you can easily create a looping slide show. In a loop slide show, each slide is automatically displayed for a set period of time. After this time, the slide automatically switches to the next slide. When the slide show reaches the end, it repeats from the beginning.

  • Open your PowerPoint presentation.
  • Click the [Slideshow] tab > In the Setup group, click Slideshow Setup.
  • In the resulting dialog box, select the “Endless loop to ‘Esc'” check box under the “Show Options” section > Click [OK].
  • Click the first slide in the Slides page panel > Hold down the [Shift] key and click the last slide. This selects all your slides.
  • Click the [Transitions] tab > In the Timing group, clear the On Click check box and select After.
  • To set the time you want to display for each slide, click the up and down arrows in the “After:” box in the Timing group. When your slideshow reaches the last slide, it will automatically return to the beginning.

Rehearse and Record Timings

To ensure that your automatic presentation is the right length, save the time information to set the time each slide appears on the screen.

  • Go to the first slide of the presentation.
  • View the slide show.
  • Select Repeat time. The slide show starts and records the time spent on the slide. The time appears in the “Slide Time” field on the recording toolbar.
  • Select Next on the recording toolbar if you want to go to the next slide.
  • Select Pause if you want to pause or resume recording.
  • Enter a time in the Slide Duration field if you want to view a slide for a specific period of time.
  • Select Repeat if you want to restart recording for the current slide only.
  • Choose Close when you have finished recording.
  • You are asked if you want to record the new slide times. Select Yes to save the slide times at the end of the presentation.

Conclusion

PowerPoint Autoplay has proven itself as an integral part of the software for good reasons. In addition to the customization functions mentioned here, you can also automate various additional tasks, such as PowerPoint animations during transitions between slides and the duration of these animations when you switch from one slide to another. Whatever your specific needs, chances are PowerPoint’s unique resources can help you get the job done.
