Disable automatic video playback in Telegram Desktop

  1. Click on the menu button and then on Settings
  2. Select “Advanced”.
  3. This screen has a section “Automatic media download” with 3 options “In private chats, in groups, in channels”.
  4. Click on the first option (Private Chats) and on the next screen, uncheck the buttons next to Videos and Video Message Rounds.
  5. Click the Save button.

Once you have done this, the videos will no longer automatically download or play back. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for groups and channels according to your needs, i.e. if you want to disable automatic video playback completely.
