Service error 1053 usually occurs when there are problems between the application service you want to stop or interrupt and the Advapi32.dll file. This DLL File is part of an extended API service library that supports multiple APIs containing multiple security and registration calls.

Error 1053 occurs when services that use the local system account to connect to Windows are not started. Since the Windows Search service could not be launched, indexing does not work and the controls of the indexing options are hidden. Note that by default, the Windows Search (WSearch) service is configured to start automatically (delayed start).

What is the Cause of Error 1053?

The Microsoft Windows Service Control Manager monitors the status (i.e. started, stopped, paused, paused, stopped, etc.) of all installed Windows services. By default, the Service Control Manager waits 30,000 milliseconds (30 seconds) for a service to respond. However, specific configurations, technical limitations or performance issues may cause the service to take more than 30 seconds to start and report to the Service Control Manager.

Changing or creating the DWORD ServicesPipeTimeout value can override the Service Control Manager’s wait time, giving the department more time to start and produce a report.

Changing the Windows Registry

Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor can cause the operating system to malfunction. It is recommended to perform a full backup of the registry and workstation before modifying the registry.

  1. Click Start > Run, then type regedit.
  2. Search for it, then right-click on the following registry subkey: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
  3. Point to New, then click on DWORD Value. In the right pane of the registry editor, note that the new value #1 (the name of a new registry entry) is selected for editing.
  4. Type ServicesPipeTimeout to replace the new value #1, then press Enter.
  5. Right-click the ServicesPipeTimeout registry entry you created in step 3, then click Edit. The Edit D-WORD value dialog box appears.
  6. In the Value text box, type 86400000, then click OK. This is in milliseconds that you want to set for the service. If you set the waiting time to 86400000, it is set to 24 hours (86400000 milliseconds).
  7. Restart the computer.

Verify the Permissions for the License Component Folders

  • Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk.
  • Right-click on AdskLicensingService > Properties > Security.

  • Repeat steps 2-3 for folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared.
  • Open Windows Services (click Start > type services.msc > press ENTER).
  • Locate the Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service, right-click, click Stop, then click Start.
  • Open the software again and test it.
