Although WLM is no longer active, some Windows users still use it and are warned by the 0x800CCC6F error when they try to send an email via the Windows Live Mail client. Most of the affected users say that they can receive e-mails without any problems – only the sending function is affected.
It turns out that there are several potential culprits that could ultimately cause the 0x800CCC6F error:
- Incorrect POP settings
- The SMTP port is blocked by a third party firewall
- The email(s) is/are blocked in the Outbox folder.
- The IP range is blacklisted
- The list of recipients is too long
Changing Ports
The first patch in the series is to optimize your port settings. First try changing your port to 995. Make sure that SSL is checked. Also set your outgoing port to 465 and enable SSL. Now check whether your problem has been solved.
Repairing Windows Live Mail
In the meantime, we recommend that you try to repair Windows Live Mail to see if this solves the problem. Be sure to back up your files before performing a repair. Follow these steps to repair Windows Live Mail:

Use the Correct POP Settings
In most documented cases, the 0x800CCC6F error occurred due to a port not supported by the SMTP server or due to the SSL option for SMTP. If this scenario is true, you should be able to resolve the problem by changing the mail server settings so that it is a port supported by your POP connection.
If the port setting is not effective, you should also try changing the SMTP for outgoing mail to another ISP provided to see if this can possibly solve the problem.
If you don’t know how to change the mail server settings used by Windows Live Mail, follow these instructions :
- Open Windows Live Mail and make sure you are logged in to the email account that ends with the 0x800CCC6F error.
- Then click File (at the top of the ribbon), and then click Options > Mail Accounts….
- Once you are on the Accounts screen, select the problem account in the E-mail category, go to the right panel, and then click Properties.
- On the Properties screen, select the Servers tab in the top bar, then replace the outgoing email (SMTP) with another address provided by the email you specified. Then select the My server requires authentication check box and click Settings.
- If you are on the outgoing mail server, select the Use the same settings as for my incoming mail server check box and click OK to save the changes.
- When you are back in the main properties window, select the Advanced tab and change the outgoing mail (SMTP) server to another port.
Scan your PC for malware
If disabling your non-Microsoft antivirus program was not successful, use it to perform a full scan of your system.
You can also use Windows Defender for this purpose:
- Start -> Settings -> Update and Security
- Windows Defender -> Open Windows Defender -> Full
