Microsoft has released a new version of Windows 10 that includes an update to the design of the Start menu with live transparent tiles, improved notifications and behavioral changes for things like tablet mode and the taskbar. It’s been a while since Microsoft released a version with interface changes, but we’re finally ready to release all the changes on video.

The new Start menu is just the beginning of some of the user interface changes that Microsoft wants to make to Windows 10. It’s not a big change, but it makes all the difference. In the past, the Start Menu was a chaotic looking interface, but with these changes, the live tiling interface of the Start Menu looks consistent and minimalist.

This sophisticated Start Menu theme is perfect for both dark and light themes, but if you’re looking for a touch of color, make sure to enable the Windows dark theme first, then under Settings > Personalization > Color, check “Show accent color on the following surfaces” for the Start, Taskbar and Action Center to elegantly apply your accent color to the Start frame and tiles.

Some insiders haven’t had a chance to try out the new Start menu and tile colors. If you’re one of them, learn here how to force the new feature.

Use ViveTool

We need to use a third party tool called “Vive”. Vive is an open source tool developed by two well-known Windows enthusiasts, Rafael Rivera and Albacore. Like Mach2, Vive can activate hidden functions in Windows that are hidden in the operating system by Microsoft and/or under A/B testing. Microsoft uses a feature control system that allows its engineers to have “stable” and running code similar in the operating system. Both are available in a special Feature Store, and the latter part is usually hidden from the user. Vive allows you to manage the Feature Store and enable the features you want to try.

Vive is a C# library, and there is also a ViveTool application that uses the library and provides a console interface for its functions. It makes it easy to enable or disable a Feature Store feature.
