How to restore Recycle Bin in Windows 8 and 8.1

If you have removed Recycle Bin icon from your desltop accidentally and you want it back, then don’t worry this tutorial helps you how to get it back. It can be done in five methods, creating a folder, using Control Panel, using Windows registry, changing Group Policy setting and Microsoft fix it.

Using UI

  • Right click anywhere on free space on desktop and select personalization from the options.
  • You will find change desktop icons from the left side pane and click on it. This will open desktop icon settings box.
  • Here select the Recycle Bin checkbox and click on Apply.

That’s it, now you can see Recycle bin on the desktop.

Create a folder

Right click on desktop and click on New and select Folder. In the Name field copy and paste the following text.

That’s it that folder will convert into Recycle Bin. This is very simple method.

Using Windows Registry

  • Type regedit to launch Registry Editor and go to the following key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace
  • Right click on the Registry Key and enter the following text.
    645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
  • Now click on the new key which you have created and double-click on (default) entry in the right pane. In the Edit String dialog box, type Recycle Bin in value data box.
  • value will display the recycle bin, whereas will show it.
  • Finally click OK and exit.

That;s it, now you can find Recycle bin on the desktop.

Using group policy

Launch Run box and type gpedit.msc to open the Group Policy Editor and then go to User configuration > Administrative Templates > Double-click desktop. Now double click on remove Recycle Bin icon from the desktop and click on Settings tab.

If you select Disabled, then Recycle Bin icon will be displayed and if you select Enable then it will hide Recycle Bin. After selecting click on Apply/OK and hide it.
