How to recover hacked Microsoft Account
Before Microsoft account is used to log into your mail, but now same account can be used across all Microsoft products like One Drive cloud storage, Skype and now even signing into your Windows 8 PC. What if your Microsoft account is hacked, you can’t access your services, so here I am discussing lot of ways to recover your Microsoft account.
Check whether you account is compromised
If you face the situation like you cannot log in to your Microsoft Account with the regular password, then the hacker has compromised your account and changed the password. You can’t access your account anymore. If this happen to you, then go to Monitor Recent Activity page on the Microsoft’s website. This page will display all your recent activity of your account with all the details including the IP address from which you have logged into your account, in which platform you logged and browser.
Here you can find out whether your account is hacked or not, for example if you logged into your account in Windows OS and Chrome browser then if it displays Linux and other browser then that is the problem. If you find login attempt that you know is wrong, then report to Microsoft that it isn’t you. If you want to know your PC’s public IP address then just type my ip in Google or search for What is my ip on Bing and you will get your IP.
How to recover Hacked account
Before going through the recovery process I recommend you to scan your PC for malware. There is a chance that your password might be captured by the keylogger or another malware that entered your PC. If you change the password without clearing the malware on your PC, then there is a chance that this malware can again hack your account.
- If you can sign into your account, then first Change the password and set a strong password. So those who are accessing your account with the old password cannot sign into your account anymore.
- If you cannot sign into your account, then click on Reset password. If you have provided any back up email id or phone number to verify your email ID then it will ask for the information.
- In the case if you signed into your Microsoft account from the Windows PC and marked it as the trusted one, then reset your password from the trusted PC.
If none of this method work for you, the navigate to Recover your Microsoft Account and it will ask you to answer few questions about the account and emails stored there. The answers you provided will confirm that you are the real owner or not. After this Microsoft wesbite will say some one will get back to you within 24 hours, so you need to wait for sometime after filling all these questions.
