Microsoft rolls out firmware updates for Surface Pro

Microsoft releases updates regularly for all its products and Surface devices are no exception. Microsoft has released May firmware updates for its Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 2 tablets powered by Intel processors.

Surface Pro 3 System firmware updates includes,

  • Surface Pro 3 UEFI update (v3.11.850.0) includes the changes which are required to be compatible with the updated graphics driver.

  • Display auto driver is updated to v6.16.00.3172, it improves the audio experience and also offers better compatibility with updated graphics driver.

Previously Microsoft has released an update for Surface Pro 3 in April which includes Surface Type cover filter device update offering full support for Japanese Surface Pro type cover and Surface pen settings driver update.

The Surface Pro 2 system firmware update include,

  • Surface Pro 2 UEFI update (v2.5.250.0) includes the changes which are required to be compatible with the updated graphics driver.
  • HD Graphics Family driver is updated to v10.18.14.4170 that improves the graphics performance and better miracast wireless support.
  • Display auto driver is updated to v6.16.00.3172, it improves the audio experience and also offers better compatibility with updated graphics driver.

Although Surface Pro 3 and 2 versions received updates, Microsoft hasn’t released May updates for Surface RT and Surface 2 tablets powered by ARM processors. Microsoft has mentioned on its Surface history websites that, Surface updates are rolled out through Windows update, which means that they can be delivered in parts to the users. So not every Surface device will receive the update at the same time, but delivered in parts. If you haven’t received the updates, then check for the update manually.
