How to install Android SDK on Windows PC

If you are Android developer or you want to learn developing Android applications, you need to install Android SDK on your PC. Android SDK is the Android application environment which contains all libraries which help you to build the Android applications and games. Installing the Android SDK on your PC is not the difficult one, but it leaves the users with lot of confusion, as the SDK package for Windows doesn’t come with regular installer. Let use see here how to install it on the Windows PC.

How to install Android SDK on Windows PC

Before downloading Android SDK its needs working version of Java to be installed on your PC. Download official version of Java from here. Use the following command in the command prompt to confirm the presence of Java on your PC.

java -version

After confirming that Java is installed on your PC, then you can move on to install Android SDK.

  • Navigate to Android’s developer website and download Android Studio for Windows. This file will contains all the tools such as SDK tools, Android Studio IDE, Android 5.0 platform and Android 5.0 emulator system image with Google APIs.
  • After clicking on Android Studio for Windows button you wilm taken the next window and there click on Accept terms and conditions and download it.
  • After downloading it, extract ADT package folder on to the C drive and rename this folder to Android such that it will be easy to navigate.
  • For Android SDK to function effectively, you need to set the environment variables such that you no need to enter full path to the SDK tools whenever you need to use them.
  • Hit win+x keys simultaneously and click on System from the options, to set the environment variables.
  • Click on Advanced system settings in the following window and in the next window click on environment variables to open environment variables window.

  • In the next window scroll down to find system variables and select variable path and click on edit button.
  • Now paste the below path in the edit box and click on OK to save the changes.
    C:Androidsdktools;C:Androidsdkplatform-tools

That’s it you have installed Android SDK on Windows and you can use Android tools like fastboot and adt as you like.
