How to setup Windows 8 Mail app to use POP mail

Many of the Windows users are using Windows 8 Mail app as the default email client, but one limitation of this is it lacks the support for Post Office Protocol (POP). This is the reason most of the Windows 8 users prefer to use other email clients or use the web browser to read the emails. If you are using the remote mailbox which only supports POP and let us see here how to setup the Mail app and to use the POP mail.

How to setup Windows 8 Mail app to use POP mail

  • Go to on your web browser and sign in to your Microsoft account. If you are not having Microsoft account, then create a new one.
  • After logging in, navigate to settings. For this just click on the gear icon at the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Now from the drop-down menu, select options.


  • Now under the Managing your account menu select Your mail accounts option.
  • Under the Your mail accounts option, click on Add a send and receive account.


  • You will be taken to the another page that displays the account info. Don’t add your email address and your password. Instead of this click on Advanced options.
  • This page will display the POP settings to access your account. Like this, you will configure Outlook to get the emails from POP Mail account. Enter the details in the text fields based on your server’s POP settings.
  • Now click on Next and wait for Outlook to setup your account.
  • After configuring, you will be directed to the new page prompting you whether to create a new folder or add to Your Inbox when receiving emails. Click on save to save them in the Inbox.

Configure Windows mail to send and receive emails from Outlook

Add your email account you have setup in the Windows Mail earlier. If you have added the account already, skip this step. Otherwise proceed with the steps to finish.

  • Press Win+C keys to open the Charms bar to launch the Mail app.
  • Navigate to the Settings and select Accounts and click on Add an account option. Here enter the email address and password. That’s it you are set for the POP mail experience.


  • Enter the Email address and password in the respective fields and you are all set for the POP Mail experience.
