How to rename scheduled task in Windows task scheduler

Task Scheduler is one of the best productive application in Windows which let you to schedule the simple and complex tasks quickly and automate your workflow on Windows PC. In our previous articles we have discussed few things like how to configure CCleaner automatically to clean your computer and how to schedule Windows Defender to perform full computer scan on weekly or daily basis. o, task scheduler is very useful tool, but there is an limitation with this, that is it won’t allow you to rename the task once it has been created. But if you want to rename the scheduled task, then here is how to do that.

How to rename scheduled task in Windows task scheduler

It is not straightforward to rename in the task scheduler, but is not hard either. All you need to do is just export and import the scheduled task.

  • First, search for task scheduler app from the start screen or start menu.
  • From the search results, click on task scheduler option and this will open task scheduler. Here find the task which you want to rename. For example, here we renaming custom CCleaner Auto Clean task.

  • Right click on the task and click on properties option from the context menu. In the properties window, you will see name field under General tab which is grayed out i.e, Windows doesn’t allow you to rename scheduled task in regular way.
  • To rename, you need to export the existing task first. For this, right click on the task and click on Export option.

  • In the next window, choose the convenient location to store the exported file and click on Save as option.
  • Now again right click on that specific task and select Delete option. This will popup a warning window and here click on Yes to continue.

  • In the right side pane, under the actions section, choose Import task option. This will open new window, here find the task which we exported earlier and click on open button to import the task back.
  • This will open the imported task in the Create Task window. Here enter the name which you would like to give to the task and click on Ok to save the changes.

That’s it, it is that simple to rename the scheduled task in the Windows task manager. You can edit the tasks according to your needs. If you want to rename the task again you need to redo the complete process.
