How to enable boot to desktop mode in Windows 8.1

Boot to desktop is one of the most proclaimed option in Windows 8.1 which allow you to go straight into the classic desktop mode by powering on your PC. Like Windows 8, Windows 8.1 also boot directly to the start screen by default on startup, but enabling boot to desktop option is very easy and let use see here how to do that.

How to enable boot to desktop mode in Windows 8.1

  • Move your mouse to the taskbar and right click and select Properties from the menu.

  • This will open Taskbar and navigation properties and here click on Navigation tab

  • From the option check the Go to the desktop instead of start when I sign in option under Start Screen section.
  • If you want the start screen to have the same wallpaper as desktop then check the Show my desktop background on start option.
  • Finally click on OK to apply the changes.

From the next time when boot your computer, Windows 8.1 will take you directly to the desktop mode. If you have unchecked Show my desktop background on start option then the start screen will now look like desktop because it will have the same background image too.
